Easy to print Swann-Morton Scalpel No.3 Cover Caps

Share

I always love Swann-Morton Scalpel. It looks nice, insanely sharp, and cheap compared to other craft knives. Moreover, I feel it fit in my hand better than other craft knives with cylinder handle.

However, there is one thing that annoys me about it – it’s difficult to keep my hand safe from their sharp blade. I have searched the internet for a storage solution, but none of them seem to meet my needs.

So, I have designed my own cover caps. I split it into two-part, which can print flat on the print bed. This orientation allows for more intricate detailing on the interior parts and makes printing faster and easier. Moreover, the parts are stronger when printed in this manner.

The only downside of this design is that it requires glueing the parts together. However, I have included interior slots in the design to facilitate easy alignment during the glueing process. I recommend using A-B Epoxy for the best results.

In the download link, you will find both the split version that can be printed and glued together, as well as the full version that can be printed vertically as one piece.

The Cap is specifically designed to fit the Swann-Morton Scalpel No.3 handle with a #11 Blade. I have tested the split version, and it printed easily, resulting in a tight fit for the blade handle.
