As a content creator, having a reliable and sturdy mount to hold my tablet is essential for capturing high-quality footage. I also use it to mount on my tripod to use an iPad as a wireless monitor on set. After thorough research, I decided to invest in the Mini-Focus tablet mount for its compact size, versatile mounting options, and quick-release system.
I chose this Mini-Focus tablet mount over well-known brands for several reasons. I was impressed with the design and build quality of the mount upon receiving it. According to the manufacturer’s website, the body is made of cast aluminum alloy, making it very rigid. The mount is compact in size, slightly larger than the phone mount that I also purchased from Mini-Focus after I received the iPad holder.
The clamping width is 9 to 23 centimeters, making it large enough to mount a 12.9-inch iPad Pro in landscape mode. For the iPad Mini, it can be mounted on both axes, but for my Samsung Note 10 Plus smartphone, it can only be mounted vertically.
The locking screw on the top clamp jaw has a push spring, and the clamping range is approximately 3.5 millimeters. The clamp jaw is 1.5 centimeters deep, which is deep enough to hold the iPad mini without removing its protective case.
The clamp pad area is covered with PU leather, neatly cut and assembled, which is different from the phone mount’s rubber material.
Unlike other tablet mounts with a quick-release feature, the locking levers are placed on the side, making it slimmer and easier to mount from behind.
The quick-release feature is easy to use – simply open one of the quick-release levers, place the tablet into the mount, slide down the top jaw, lock the lever, and tighten the lock screws. After tightening the locking knob, the tablet will be firmly and securely mounted in place.
The Mini-Focus tablet mount is a compact and sturdy option that comes with a variety of mounting options, including a built-in Arca Swiss compatible mount, cold shoe, ARRI hole, and ΒΌ screw holes. However, there are no β screw holes.
I mainly chose this mount for its quick-release feature and built-in Arca Swiss mount, but I was disappointed to find out that the Arca Swiss mount was slightly smaller than standard and couldn’t be locked with a standard Arca Swiss Clamp. I was able to fix this issue with some duct tape.
Additionally, the cold shoe mount is obstructed by the locking knob. You can use it to mount a small accessory but it will be difficult to access the locking knob.
Despite these minor setbacks, I still appreciate the compact size and quick-release system of the Mini-Focus tablet mount. It is small enough to fit in a laptop bag, making it convenient to carry around.
The quick-release feature and built-in Arca Swiss mount make this mount a great choice for those looking for a convenient and efficient way to mount their tablet on a tripod or other support system.
However, if you frequently use cold shoe mounts or Arca Swiss mounts and are not willing to use duct tape as a fix, this may not be the best option for you.
